Spherical roller bearings are self-aligning bearings and accommodate radial as well as thrust loads; they are mounted primarily in applications where no high axial guiding accuracy is required. They are applied in converters, as roll bearings, in gears, roller tables, adjusting mechanisms and continuous casting plants.
Spherical roller bearings are available in various designs (open, sealed, unsplit or split).
Sealed spherical roller bearings
The rolls in continuous casting plants are mostly supported in spherical roller bearings. They are usually lubricated with grease (up to 100 t per year). The use of sealed spherical roller bearings reduces the grease consumption by up to 75%. This is both environmentally friendly and cost-effective.
